2020 Máscaras Emerging Artist Grant, Culture Secretary of Medellín, Col
Máscaras is a series of eleven large prints measuring 50cm by 70cm. They narrate in a visual- poetry the relations between the feminine, violence, and Colombia’s reality. This is done through associating graphic elements with repetition, transparencies, superpositions, cut-outs, and other techniques. The graphic figures represent women’s bodies, elements from the city and countryside, maps, and aspects of Catholicism.
2019 Blind Date 2019. Creative Grant from Ministry of Culture of Colombia and Toronto Comic Arts Festival
Comic created between the artists Karen Shangguan (Vancouver) and Laura Cañas (Medellín). Two characters cross an intermediate imaginary city between Vancouver and Medellín, based on what the artists shared about their respective cities. We explored the borders that separate and connect us. It was a part of the special projects and programs of the Toronto Comic Arts Festival.
